FABB WOMEN#02： 小口順子さん「好きなことだからこそ続けられる」

コーディングとはデザイナーが企画したデザインを元にHTMLやCSSというコードを用いて、実際にウェブサイトで見られるようにする仕事です。現在塩尻市在住の小口順子さんは夫、長男7歳と三人暮らし。

OL時代より興味のあったコーディングを結婚後の仕事に選択したのは、将来子どもができた時になるべく一緒にいたいという思いからでした。

 

コーダーママへの道

仕事を続けながら勉強するのが難しかったので、仕事を辞めハローワークに登録しました。その時募集していたデザイン科コースに応募し、3か月間職業訓練を受けました。

その後も通信講座で6か月勉強し、更に独学でクリエイター試験上級のイラストレーター、フォトショップ、ウェブクリエイターの資格を取るなど準備を進めたということです。在宅ワークは急にお金が稼げるものではありませんが、地道に一つ一つじっくりこなしていくうちに少しずつ仕事が増えていき、それがやりがいに繋がります。

コーディングは細かい仕事です。デザイナーさんが指示した通りに正確に出来上がった時は達成感がありとても嬉しいものです。ママ在宅ワーカーさんのメリットの一つは、子どもが仕事をする親の姿を見ることができる点です。自分が頑張る姿を子どもに見せられるというのは親にとっても子どもにとっても大切なことだと小口さんは言います。

そのおかげか、息子さんが忙しそうにしているお母さんの姿を感じ取り、お手伝いをしてくれるようになったそうです。

 

また子どもが小さい時は二人きりの世界で、外界から取り残されたように思えてくるものですが、仕事をするようになって不安が解消され、仕事に集中することが日々のストレス解消になるほどです。

 

 

コーダーママの一日

小口さんは9時から４時までと夜12時から集中して仕事をします。こまめに休憩をとり、昼はきちんと一時間食事をしながらドラマなどを見てリフレッシュします。

オンとオフの切り替えは在宅ワーカーにとってとても大切なことです。熱中しすぎてあっという間に4時になり、慌ててお子さんの迎えに走る日もあれば、夜中に起きて朝まで仕事をする日もあり、睡眠時間が4時間になってしまうこともありますが、それでも好きなことだからこそ続けられるのです。

納期が迫った休日など、ご主人にお子さんを見てもらい締め切りに間に合わせることもあります。おかげで納期に遅れたことはないと小口さんは胸を張ります。

 

「今」から「これから」へ

コーディングは基本的にチーム仕事です。チームでやっていると、それぞれが勉強してわかったことを伝え合うことで、いくつもの新しいことを共有でき、同じ苦労を共感できるようになります。今はチャンスをくれた人たちに恩返しをするため、講師の仕事なども幅広く受けています。

将来はもっと仲間を増やしてみんなで楽しく生き生きとやっていける環境を作りたいということです。

 

インタビューを終えて

「女性は結婚すると仕事だけに時間をかけられないものですが、できないことを数えるのではなくできることを見つけて自分のやり方を探してほしいですね。」という小口さんの言葉に、とても勇気づけられました。

そして、インターネットが発達したことにより在宅ワークという新しい選択肢が生まれ、子育てが女性の社会進出の妨げにならない時代になってきたことを感じました。これからは子育ても仕事もどちらも楽しむステキな女性がどんどん増えるのではないかとワクワクして取材を終えました。
